COVID-19 : Help us to provide a PPE Social Distancing Guardian to long-term cares in Ottawa and elsewhere

People can be safer when keeping Social Distancing

The Social Distancing Guardian is a device for maintaining distancing, incorporated in a pendant or in belt clip to be worn indoors. It provides audible and vibrating alarms when people are less than predefined distancing (e.g. 2or 3 metres) apart and potential users are any indoor places such as Long-term care, retirement/nursing homes, hospitals, etc. It will ensure people to keep social distancing where infringements are common, most frequently unintentional, but also from lack of consideration for others.

No More Lonely Death in Long-term Care

Being sick and dying with COVID-19 is one of the saddest things in life as you are so alone with nobody beside you.  We feel sad just imagining  a situation of family members and friends not being able to be beside us when we need them the most.

We were so shocked reading "82% of Canada’s COVID-19 deaths have been in long-term care". Physical distancing and isolation seems working against COVID-19. Having safe distance for vulnerable groups is even more critical as we can see what happened last few months. On 11June 2020,  6 Long-term Care Homes, and 2 Retirement Homes in Ottawa are still on active outbreaks.

We are not medical professionals, but we are good at technology. There are people who can be safer with our invention and development. So we want to help them.  We are an Ottawa-based team whose expertise in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. When everybody started to suffer and hear news of death with COVID-19 pandemic, we started to develop an electronic PPE device.

We would like to donate our devices to those where social distancing is critical for health and safety. Our device works as PPE by providing alarms when people are closer than 2 meters, 6 feet  or any distance you like to set.

We would like to do fundraising to support material cost to manufacture as many as possible.
